Winter is definitely on the way as the cold morning air is gently reminding me!
The mission of evangelization continues as I find myself in the very heart of Soho most days.
In part her message yesterday in Medjugorje Our Lady says
“By your example, you will make it so that those children who do not know my Son and His love will come to desire to know Him. My children, apostles of my love, adore my Son with me and love Him above all. Always strive to live in His truth. Thank you .”
And I sense that this is my challenge as I venture into the heart of the action!
Yesterday I was invited to the Hare Krisna temple in Soho for an introductory explanation of their beliefs and a free lunch! It was the free lunch that sealed it for me!
So there I am in the temple looking about and praying in my own way (Hail Mary’s) for the people around me!
I was a little nervous but more than anything I was confident that Jesus was in me and with me and that I had no reason to fear!
I was impressed by their devotion and if one was to replace the words “Lord Krisna” with “Lord Jesus” it could almost have been catholic!
The emptiness of life without God, the unhealthy attachment to material things, the need for spiritual transformation, the mercy of God….
Many things were just the same as what any good priest would say!
Yet while it sounds similar there was no talk of Jesus, the trinity, the Bible, the eucharist or of the redemption!
After the talk I got talking to them. They guessed that I’m spiritual so I spoke of believing in similar things only that I’m catholic and go to church every day. They were very respectful and made no effort to undermine my beliefs.
“Krisna” and “Jesus” are the same they said, “there are different paths”.
Personally I don’t believe that for a second. Krisna whoever he may be seems to have no love for Our Lady, the death on the cross, the priesthood so it is my belief that he is definitely not Jesus nor are all ways and spiritualities the same!
Anyway I was not there to argue but to listen and I was very impressed with their warm welcome.
Some had come from backgrounds of drugs and depression before joining and one could not but be impressed by their dedication to prayer and spiritual transformation as they too seek God in this confusing world!
Afterwards I went to Saint Patrick’s catholic church almost accross the road to pray.
Jesus was exposed in the Blessed sacrament on the altar and I sat there praying for all the guys I met feeling somewhat sad at all the confusion of today’s word and at how little known Jesus is!
My day continued about Soho before going to evening mass in Kensington at the Carmelites after which I went to a very beautiful catholic prayer meeting for young adults called “Pure at heart”!
My life is certainly one of extremes as I go from the church to the world and the world to the church!
At times it’s hard to know what difference I make in either place but that’s God’s business!
Today my prayer is for all spirirual seekers. I pray that like saint Augustin that they will come to know Jesus, Mary and the catholic church!
Sure the church has problems but Jesus and Mary are still there working in her and through her in power!
Thank you God for the catholic church and may we all try to fulfill Our Lady’s words yesterday.
“By your example, you will make it so that those children who do not know my Son and His love will come to desire to know Him.”
