Good afternoon to you all!

This morning the police contacted me in relation to the homophobic abuse I’ve been getting for a while. They are coming to meet me in about an hour.

Perhaps it was providential that as I sat down yesterday in the church this book jumped out at me….



It also ties in perfectly with today’s gospel readings from Luke:

“24 And he went on, ‘In truth I tell you, no prophet is ever accepted in his own country.

²⁸ When they heard this everyone in the synagogue was enraged.

²⁹ They sprang to their feet and hustled him out of the town; and they took him up to the brow of the hill their town was built on, intending to throw him off the cliff,

³⁰ but he passed straight through the crowd and walked away.”

Imagine for a second Jesus being chased off a cliff for what? Telling the truth!

The little book written by a friend of Medjugorje describes the trials that true followers of Jesus will face from their own.



And the book offers a very simple and sound piece of advice; to keep on going.

Of course for me it is very ironic that this should be written by a friend of Medjugorje considering that the last time that I was there, it was me being chased over the cliff so to speak.

And so there is a certain irony in it for me today as I call the police rather than being chased by them due to false accusations!



And yet Jesus tells me to keep on going, to keep on witnessing, to keep on talking of the love of God for LGBT people and the lack of love in the church for them, to keep on highlighting the ongoing injustice and discrimination.

Seamus has his online prayer meeting last night too where he spoke about his mission and the difficulties that he had encountered. He too spoke of the terrible rejection and abuse that we both faced in Medjugorje.

As the police come today I can’t help but wonder what the Bosnian police would be like had I called them when I was in Medjugorje.


It often makes both of us sad that the well known figures in Medjugorje who publicly abused us and told lies about us were never brought to justice. We never got so much as an apology and they continued on with their ministries as if nothing happened.

While it’s not at all on the scale of the sexual abuse scandals in the church, it does have the same smell to it. “Protect ourselves and to hell with the little people”.


Yet Jesus did not behave like this. Jesus speaks of reaching out to the lost sheep and challenging the double standards of the system.

And so today as I meet the cops, I hope and pray that I get more justice than I did from the church and people in Medjugorje and at the same time I thank God that there are public laws to protect gay people which church people are not exempt from following.

My prayer for our church is that it will become a loving and safe place for LGBT people to find God and that our church leaders will humbly break down the ongoing barriers of injustice and discrimination.

In the mean time I must take the advise given in that booklet…..KEEP ON GOING…..and so must we all!
