Happy Easter to you all! Jesus is risen and to the extent that He’s risen and alive in our hearts will we be full of joy, love and appreciation.
Of course the first Easter would have been a terrible mix of emotions. Imagine the rumours that Jesus had risen and the questions that you might have if you were there….
Where is He?
Is He angry?
What does He want?
It would have been a real rollercoaster of emotions and yet rather than set their minds at ease Jesus allowed them to live in the uncertainty.
2000 years and Jesus hasn’t changed His ways. Today is Easter Sunday and while we know that He is risen and that He is with us we too live in a world and times of a lot of uncertainty.
Why does Jesus do this and how can we be joyful if Jesus hasn’t taken away all our problems?!
The answer is simple, Jesus likes to hold us in a place of uncertainty so that He can hold us in a place of prayer and faith. He doesn’t solve all the problems of the world because this serves to remind us that our true home and the place where we’ll find true freedom is not in this world….it’s in the next.
And so today as we celebrate Easter, let’s look with faith to Jesus and with hope to the eternity that we will have with Him.
Let’s not get over worried about the dramas and problems of this world but as today’s second reading summed it all up:
2 Let your thoughts be on things above, not on the things that are on the earth,
